JUWEL Filters are equipped with various matched filter materials. A preliminary filter made of non-woven wadding in the uppermost layer prevents coarse dirt and dead plant material from penetrating further into the filter. A carbon sponge on top of large-pore sponges removes harmful inorganic substances from the water. Large-pore sponges handle biological purification. Bacteria, which settle particularly in these filter sponges, decontaminate the water by decomposing dissolved organic substances from food matter, fish excrement etc. The lower section of the JUWEL filter is fitted with fine-pore sponges which retain even the smallest suspended material, ensuring crystal-clear water.
